Travel Highlights for Dong Hoi

2 Days in Dong Hoi

Our next stop was Dong Hoi, which is definitely a lesser traveled area of Vietnam. It’s a short 1 hour flight south of Hanoi.  The highlight of the area is exploring the Dong Thien Duong Cave “Paradise Cave” which can be reached by walking 570m uphill to the entrance.  The cave itself is 32km long but tourists can only see about 1km of the cave.  Still, it’s an exquisite place and definitely the best cave we’ve ever seen.  It’s filled with massive limestone stalagmites and stalactites that will blow your mind.  It was so beautiful that we went photo crazy in there!

What is more, after Paradise Cave, we had another, even better cave experience at Phong Nha Cave which is only accessible by boat.  So, we took a 20 minute motor boat to the cave entrance where we then transferred to a row boat to explore the amazing feat of mother nature.  Phong Nha Cave has similar limestone and marble rock formations as does Paradise Cave, but it’s so mystical riding a row boat through the dark and majestic cave.  Check out our photos and video of this cave tour experience. It was unforgetabble and definitely a must-see when staying in or near Dong Hoi.

Paradise Cave and Phong Nha Cave are hands down The MOST BEAUTIFUL cave experiences of our lives with stalagmites and stalactites that will blow your mind.  Just keep in mind that Phong Nha may not be open during rainy season as water levels can rise quite high and make it impossible for boats to enter the cave.

Rowing through Phong Nha Cave in Vietnam

The limestone and marble rock formations in Phong Nha Cave are spectacular.  They can only be enjoyed by row boat when the tides are low enough to enter the cave.  It's a must-see when in Dong Hoi!
